Waterlines stand in the grand new Plaza of Aberdeen University in front of the new library. The installation was commissioned by the University and designed by Mariane Levine and Will McLean.
The installation stands as a pair, representing the "waterlines" of a navel architects plans.
They sit on a reinforced concrete foundation and are made in three parts from Kilkenny blue Irish limestone supplied by McKeon Stone, assembled by Laing Traditional Masonry and post tensioned together by Stressed Structural Ltd.
Waterlines
This work, known as Waterlines, by renowned Scottish artists Marian Leven and Will Maclean stands in the academic square in front of Aberdeen University library. The sculpture is based on the form of the iconic Aberdeen fast sailing ship Thermopylae. It is made up of two shaped columns of Kilkenny Blue Limestone. ADAC-structures carried out designs of the foundations and a post tensioning system to allow the narrow slabs of limestone to be structurally stable whilst sitting one on top of the other.
